Cheeks

Youthful cheeks are from a combination of factors.
The arch of the cheek is supported by the curvature of the bone known as the zygoma. In this area there are various fat pads which add volume, and they are supported by ligaments. However, the” Y” shape of aging, can result in the bone resorption of the maxilla, and the mid face resorting. This results in the more superficial fat pads drifting downwards, and the deeper fat pads becoming smaller.

In general, the youthful face is one where a triangle is formed across the brows to the chin. However, as the fat pads and skin lose elasticity, the face moves down with broadening of the chin and the triangle becomes inverted. The main aim of any treatment is to revers the downwards move of the fat pads, or hollowing.

Aging may involve the skin moving a few mms downwards or inwards.

The aim of the treatment is to move a few mms upwards and outwards.

Consultation

Your cosmetic practitioner will take photos and assess whether the issue with the cheeks is from bone resorption, or migration of fat pads or a combination of both.
There are many options in treating this area. Your cosmetic practitioner, will assess the area for:

-
Skin laxity
-
Pore size
-
Fat pad descent or deflation
-
hollowing

They can then discuss a treatment plan to address these areas.

Please keep in mind that the results vary between individuals, and more than one type of treatment may be required.
