Lips

We approach lips by an initial consultation where we assess the following aspects of. your lips:

  • improving hydration

  • Defining the lips

  • Improving cupids bow

  • Adding moisture and hydration

  • Turning the upper lip outwards

  • creating more volume of the lips

The lips are a very vascular area, and filler in this area can result in bruising and significant swelling.  The swelling makes it difficult to assess the actual volume, as this becomes obvious after a few days.

So, although they may look great on the day, they can lose volume when the swelling goes down.

Also remember, individuals who exercise a lot or have greater metabolism can lose the volume quickly. After lips are filled, generally people feel more confident and lose any feeling of dryness of their lips.

Consultation

Your cosmetic practitioner, will take before and after photos. They will take you through consent process explaining the process, after care, what to expect and possible side effects. Your practitioner will assess the following areas: whether volume is required, or more outline of your lips, recreating the natural tubercles of the upper and lower lip.

However, a support structure near the nose and the corners of the mouth may also need to be treated.

To improve the smile and the static position of the lips, there are different treatments that are aimed at improving the downward turn which occurs with ageing.

Post Treatment

With most of the treatments to the lips (with the exception of lip balms), lips can become swollen or bruised.  It is important to remember that the skin is the outer component of the lips and they are used to containing a certain amount of volume.  When this is stretched beyond capacity there can be long term repercussions if you opt to reverse it.

Aside from these complications, exaggeration of lips does not correspond with a natural look.  In our practice we do not condone exaggerated lips, and rather approach it with natural intentions in mind.

Keep in mind that your lips are the most swollen over the next few days.  They will then reduce, which is why your practitioner may add a little extra during your treatment to compensate for the amount of swelling which will eventually reduce.

  • Avoid engaging in kissing for 1 week

  • Use hirudoid or arnica cream for bruising

  • Avoid makeup for 24 hours

  • Avoid exercise for 24 hours

  • Avoid other cosmetic treatments such as laser or radiofrequency in these areas for 2 weeks.
